What we do

Everything except driver's licenses.

Tap the service you're coming in for — we'll show you what to bring, how long it usually takes, and any heads-ups for that visit.

For a tab renewal

Typical visit: 5 to 10 minutes
  1. Renewal notice OR plate numberBring the reminder card the state mailed if you have it. If not, just know your license plate number — that's all we need to look up your vehicle.
  2. Photo IDDriver's license, state ID, or passport.
  3. PaymentCash, check, debit, or credit. No processing fee on any payment method.

Heads up: if your tabs already expired, that's still fine — just know your plate number, bring photo ID, and a way to pay. A late fee may apply depending on how long it's been.

Want to skip the counter entirely? You can renew online at the same fees and pick up your tabs at our counter in ~30 minutes.

For a title transfer

Typical visit: 15 to 25 minutes
  1. Signed titleSigned by the seller, with odometer reading filled in. No fields crossed out.
  2. Bill of saleEven handwritten works — must include price, VIN, both names, and signatures.
  3. Photo IDDriver's license, state ID, or passport.
  4. PaymentUse tax (Washington sales tax) is calculated on the sale price.

15-day window: You have 15 days from the purchase date to transfer a Washington title into your name. After that, a late penalty starts at $50 and adds $2 per day — up to a maximum of $125. Walk in any day to avoid it.

Missing the title? Don't worry — we can help you request a duplicate. Bring your photo ID and we'll get the paperwork started.

For a new vehicle registration

Typical visit: 20 to 30 minutes
  1. Vehicle title or MSOOriginal title (if used) or Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (if new from a dealer).

For boat or vessel services

Typical visit: 15 to 20 minutes

New registration or title transfer

  1. Vessel titleRequired — we can't process a transfer or new registration without it. Signed by the seller for transfers.
  2. Hull Identification Number (HIN)Usually stamped on the transom (back) of the boat.
  3. Photo IDDriver's license, state ID, or passport.
  4. PaymentRegistration fees, watercraft excise tax, and aquatic invasive species fee.

All vessel decals expire June 30 every year — the state doesn't mail renewal notices for boats, so plan ahead.

Our busiest vessel week is 4th of July. Come in mid-June if you can, to make sure your boat is on the water in time.

Going into federal waters? Most Washington waters are federally regulated — boats need to be licensed regardless of size or engine. Canoes and kayaks don't require registration. Check local guidelines if you're unsure.

Our story

Battle Ground's licensing office for over fifty years.

Battle Ground Auto Licensing has been the licensing office for Battle Ground and the surrounding Clark County towns since 1974. Same family. Same answer when you call — a real person picks up.

When this place opened, gas was 55 cents a gallon and a tab renewal cost $4.50. The forms have changed. The work hasn't: the customer walks in, we say hello, we get the paperwork done, and you're back to your day.

We can't do everything (driver's licenses are handled at a different office, not ours), but for the things we do, we're faster, friendlier, and right in town.

  • Six days a week Open Mon–Fri and Saturday mornings.
  • In and out fast Most renewals take just a few minutes.
  • No appointments Walk in any time during open hours.
  • Family-run Locally owned since 1974.

Questions we hear a lot

Common questions.

Quick answers to the things people ask before walking in.

No — driver's licenses, ID cards, and road tests are handled at Washington State driver licensing offices. The two nearest driver licensing offices are listed above.

We handle vehicle and vessel paperwork: tabs, titles, registration, trip permits, and disabled placards.

No appointments needed. Walk in any time during business hours — Monday through Friday 9:30 to 5:30, Saturday 9 to 4.

Driver licensing offices require appointments for almost everything. We don't.

Yes — and we strongly recommend it. You can renew at dol.wa.gov in under a minute. The fees are exactly the same as walking in — there's no extra charge for renewing online with us.

When you check out, you'll be asked which office to send your work to. Choose Battle Ground Auto Licensing and we'll either have your tabs ready for pickup at our counter in about 30 minutes, or mail them out — and here's what sets us apart: we're the office that mails your tabs the same day we print them. Most offices make you wait days. With us, your tabs are in the mail that afternoon, so you get them fast.

Most tab renewals take 5 to 10 minutes once you reach the counter. Bringing your renewal notice (or just your plate number) and photo ID speeds things up.

Yes — we accept cash, check, debit, and credit cards, with no processing fee on any payment method.

Yes — we handle vessel registration, title transfers, and annual decal renewal for all Washington-registered boats. For new registrations bring your title and hull ID number. For annual renewals bring your photo ID and hull ID number — the state doesn't mail renewal notices for boats, so plan ahead. All vessel decals expire June 30.

Our busiest vessel week is 4th of July. Come in mid-June if you can, to skip the rush.

You can request a duplicate title at our office. Bring your photo ID and we'll help you fill out the form. There's a state fee for the replacement title.

If you're trying to sell a vehicle without a title in hand, come in and ask us — we can usually help you figure out the right next step.

You have 30 days from establishing Washington residency to register your vehicle. Bring your out-of-state title, current registration, photo ID, and you may need a VIN inspection.

Walk in any day — no need to wait for a driver licensing office appointment.

Not trouble — but probably a late fee. The fee depends on how long it's been expired. Just come in and we'll get you renewed today.

If you've been pulled over and given a fix-it ticket, bring that too and we can help you get the paperwork sorted out.
